Trinity English Exam Requirements for UK Visa Applications Explained

It catches people off guard sometimes you sort out the paperwork, the bank statements, the forms… then someone asks, “Have you passed your English test?”

For many UK visa applications, you must prove you can speak and understand basic English.

One common test is the Trinity College London English exam.

The Home Office accepts this test for visas like spouse visa, settlement, and some work visas.

The level you need depends on the visa. For a spouse visa, most people need A1 level at first. Later, when extending, it may be A2. For settlement, it is usually B1. These are speaking and listening tests, not long written exams.

The test must be taken at an approved Trinity centre. If you take it at the wrong place, it will not count. That’s a mistake we see quite often.
If you live in Bolton, Manchester or Burnley and you are unsure which level applies to you, it’s better to check before booking anything. Booking the wrong test wastes time and money.

At Parkview Solicitors, we guide clients on exactly which Trinity exam they need for their visa. Simple advice. Clear steps. No guessing.
