People always ask, “What documents do I need?”
And honestly, the list can feel never-ending.
Here’s a practical checklist for most spouse visa applications:
Identity
- Passports (both partners)
- BRP card (if you have one)
Relationship
- Marriage certificate
- Photos together
- Travel history (if relevant)
- Messages/call logs (not thousands, just enough)
Financial
- Payslips (usually 6 months)
- Bank statements (matching the payslips)
- Employer letter confirming job details
- If self-employed: accounts, SA302, tax documents
Accommodation
- Tenancy agreement or mortgage statement
- Council tax bill or utility bills
- If living with family: letter from them + proof they own/rent the home
English
- Trinity certificate (if required)
- Or degree/UK ENIC evidence if using that route
