A free legal consultation can be a helpful first step if you are unsure about a legal issue or worried about costs.
During a free consultation, you can usually explain your situation, ask questions, and get a general idea of where you stand.
The solicitor will often outline your options, explain the next steps, and tell you whether they can help with your case.
This meeting is mainly about giving you clarity and helping you decide what to do next. However, there are limits to what you can expect. A free consultation is not usually a full case review, and the solicitor may not go into detailed legal analysis or start work on your case at that stage.
They may also not provide written advice or contact the other side until you formally instruct them. The aim is to give initial guidance, not a complete legal solution. A free consultation is also a chance to see if the solicitor is right for you.
You can assess how clearly, they explain things and whether you feel comfortable working with them. Understanding what a free consultation includes helps set realistic expectations and makes the meeting more useful.
