ILR Long Residence Route Explained
The long residence route is for people who have lived in the UK lawfully for a long time usually 10 years.
This route can help people who have been on different visas over the years, for example:
- Student visa
- Work visa
- Family visa
- Other lawful routes
But the long residence rules are strict.
The Home Office will look closely at:
- Whether your residence was continuous
- Any gaps between visas
- Any periods of overstaying
- Time spent outside the UK
Even short gaps can cause serious issues. Some people miss ILR by a few days because they misunderstood the timeline. It sounds silly, but it happens.
In Manchester, Bolton and Burnley, we often see people who have been in the UK for years but are unsure if their history is “clean enough” for long residence. The same applies across England Liverpool, Cheshire, Yorkshire, everywhere.
Parkview Solicitors checks the full immigration timeline properly and advises whether the long residence route is realistic.
We’re based in Bolton (Greater Manchester), but help clients in the North West and throughout the UK.
