Switching Visa Categories During Extension Explained
Sometimes you don’t want to extend the same visa. You want to switch.
For example:
- Student visa to spouse visa
- Skilled Worker to spouse visa
- Graduate visa to Skilled Worker
- Fiancé(e) visa to spouse visa
Switching can be allowed, but not in every situation. Some visa types don’t allow switching from inside the UK. And timing matters a lot.
The Home Office will check:
- Are you eligible for the new route?
- Are you applying before your current visa expires?
- Do you meet the financial and English requirements?
- Is your immigration history clean?
Switching is not always harder than extending. Sometimes it’s the better move. But it must be planned properly.
