Switching Visa Categories During Extension Explained

Sometimes you don’t want to extend the same visa. You want to switch.

For example:

  • Student visa to spouse visa
  • Skilled Worker to spouse visa
  • Graduate visa to Skilled Worker
  • Fiancé(e) visa to spouse visa

Switching can be allowed, but not in every situation. Some visa types don’t allow switching from inside the UK. And timing matters a lot.

The Home Office will check:

  • Are you eligible for the new route?
  • Are you applying before your current visa expires?
  • Do you meet the financial and English requirements?
  • Is your immigration history clean?

Switching is not always harder than extending. Sometimes it’s the better move. But it must be planned properly.

We support clients across England Bolton, Manchester, Burnley, Liverpool, Merseyside, Cheshire and Yorkshire and we give straight advice on whether switching is possible and sensible.

Because the wrong switch can lead to refusal, and that’s a risk most people don’t need.
