Sponsor Licence Compliance Requirements Explained

Getting the sponsor licence is only the beginning.

Keeping it is the real responsibility.

Once approved, the employer must follow strict Home Office rules. These include:

  • Keeping copies of passports and right to work documents
  • Recording employee contact details
  • Reporting changes in job role, salary or work location
  • Reporting if a sponsored worker does not attend work

These reports must be made within specific time limits using the Sponsor Management System (SMS).

The Home Office can carry out compliance visits without much notice. They may ask to see files, interview staff, and check systems.

We’ve seen businesses in Burnley and Greater Manchester caught off guard because they thought approval meant “job done.” It doesn’t.

Sponsor compliance is ongoing.

Parkview Solicitors advises employers on setting up proper systems so they stay compliant long term, not just at the application stage.
