How to Prepare Evidence for a Taxi Licence Appeal

Preparing strong evidence is one of the most important parts of a taxi licence appeal.

The first step is to understand exactly why the council made its decision. Carefully read the refusal or revocation letter so you know what concerns need to be addressed.

Your evidence should be focused on those points, not general information.

If the issue is medical, up-to-date medical reports from your GP or specialist are often essential. If it relates to your driving history or a past offence, evidence showing improvement, such as clean records since, training certificates, or explanations of changed circumstances, can be very helpful.

Character references are also important. These should come from reliable people such as employers, colleagues, community leaders, or long-standing customers who can speak honestly about your behaviour and suitability as a driver. Make sure references are signed, dated, and clearly explain how the person knows you. Any certificates, letters, or official documents should be clear and organised.

It also helps to show that you understand your responsibilities as a driver and take public safety seriously. Presenting your evidence in a clear and organised way makes it easier for the court to follow your case. Good preparation shows the court that you are responsible, honest, and suitable to hold a taxi licence, which can greatly improve your chances of a successful appeal.
